Our Vineyard

Firehouse Wine Cellars is proud to produce our wines using grapes from the finest growers in the region, including our local vineyard, Old Folsom Vineyard. Old Folsom, a Black Hills vineyard located only three miles from Firehouse Wine Cellars, was established in 2007 by the Gould family, who have been a part of the Firehouse family from the very beginning.

Old Folsom produces high-quality, cold-climate grapes, including:

Petite Pearl
Developed by Tom Plocher of Bevans Creek Vineyard and Nursery, Petite Pearl is a cold-hardy, red wine, hybrid grape that was introduced in 2010 and planted in Old Folsom Vineyard in 2014. Petite Pearl contains low acid levels and has a ripe fruit taste with soft mid-mouth tannins. They are ideal for red varietal wines or as a valuable blending component.

La Crescent
Introduced in 2002, La Crescent is a white wine grape that is a cross-breed of St. Pepin and Swenson grapes. La Crescent grapes are highly acidic and contain hints of apricot, peach, citrus, and honey. They are often used to make semi-sweet or dessert wines similar to Vignole or Riesling.

Brianna
Also used to make flavorful white juices, Brianna is a white wine grape that is ready to be harvested in early to mid-September. Wines that are made from Brianna grapes are balanced with pineapple nose and flavor.

Frontenac Gris
Used in white wines, Frontenac Gris has a sweetness that makes them ideal for high-quality table and dessert wines, as well as ice wine. Frontenac Gris contains peach, apricot, citrus, and pineapple aromas.

Frontenac
A cross between Vitis riparia 89 and the French hybrid Landot Noir, Frontenac was the first in a series of new wine grape varieties that were developed specifically for upper Midwest conditions. The cherry notes of Frontenac grapes make them an ideal choice for red wines, rosés, and ports.

Marquette
A cousin of Frontenac and a grandson of Pinot Noir, Marquette grapes are high in sugar content and moderately acidic. They contain notes of cherry, berry, black pepper, and spice and are used to make red wines that are complex in flavor.
