Colonel Purdy
Sweet Riesling
Back in 1947 Ira Purdy’s wallet went missing along with his Rapid City Army Air Base (now Ellsworth Air Force Base) I.D., a few cherished family photos, and a month’s pay. Sixty-three years later it was discovered hidden behind a support beam in what is now Firehouse Wine Cellars. Purdy, a WWII airman who was once shot down over France, was reunited with his old leather wallet, the photos of his family and the many memories held within. This Riesling, reminiscent of those great noble wines from a by-gone era, is fittingly named in honor or Colonel Ira Purdy. We salute all men and women who have served in the armed forces. To honor, to the memories, and to this great country, we raise a glass. Thank you for your service Colonel Purdy.
