Rockhound Rose
“Rockhounds”—avid rock hunters—scour the rock beds and grasslands of the southern Black Hills in search of the elusive Fairburn agate, South Dakota’s state gemstone. This stone is valued for its unique layers of oranges and grays. It is rarely found anywhere except surrounding the town that is its namesake.
This is a very special pink wine produced from sangiovese grapes sourced from Washington state. Our winemaker Adam Martinez pressed them ever so slightly before fermentation. That light handling of the red grape during production gave just a little bit of color from the skin to the juice that made the wine.
The result is a stunning shade of salmon, making the perfect drink for sipping a glass on a patio during warm summer days and cool summer evenings. This beautiful wine is a true gem, just like the rare opportunity of finding the stone on its label—the Fairburn agate.
