Autumn in the Black Hills is a special time. The crisp night air works its magic to create colorful fall foliage. The Aspen tree, called the Quaking Aspen because its leaves shake in the breeze, is known for its reaction to these cold spells. Its once-vibrant green leaves begin to change—first to a bright orange and finally to a golden yellow. Aspens stand next to their Ponderosa Pine neighbors and create breathtaking landscapes throughout the Hills.
